Drilled in his pool of blood, he fell to my feet, my trembling hands went to his chest, "help me" I yelled, but it seem my voice stopped within, the street was empty and silent. His face went pale, "H-help" I shuttered at a vehicle, but they drove past at high speed, he was gradually closing his eyes, his loud grunts expressed the
pains he had to bear, his blue shirt was now coloured red.."Don't leave me Gerald, fight for your life, don't give up" I cried. He lifted his hands to my cheeks, his hand felt cold to my skin, his eyelids fluttered.
"I won't give up on you Jane" he promised, I love you". I couldn't utter a word, for a moment the accident scene flashed back like a movie scene, Gerald getting hit by an unknown truck, his loud yells that left me in shock, the truck speeding away without offering to help and his heavy body crashed to the tar street. This wasn't suppose to happen to me, after having a sumptuous anniversary dinner together at the resort, we decided to take a stroll down the beautiful streets together,l. This was an unexpected approach, I ran to search my purse for my cellphone, I dialled the emergency number for an ambulance, it was going to take a while, I performed the cardio pulmonary resuscitation procedure, I pulled his coat to keep him warm. Ambulance sirens drew closer, my heart skipped for a bit, Gerald's heart beat were slowly deteriorating
"Stay put Gerald, the ambulance is here, the ambulance drew to a stop in front of us, they carefully held Gerald onto a stretcher and placed him into the van. He was placed on a drip while we made our way to the hospital. Arriving at the hospital the doctors and nurses rushed him down to the theatre after taking several physical test on him, he was placed on an emergency surgery. The doctors and nurses were fast and diligent in their work, their white coat and the stethoscope hanged to their neck represented their career, responsibility and hospitality. Gerald's life was on the line, I joined my hands a and murmured a few prayers to myself. My relationship with God was strong but I hope he answers my prayers.
I don't remember when I slept off, my throat was hurting after crying myself to sleep, I don't have a clue about Gerald's health condition right now, I rushed to the doctors office to make enquiry about his health.
Walking into his office, his expression wasn't appealing when he saw me come in, bad thought kept flaunting my mind. I pulled the chair and sat in front of him, I don't know what to expect right now, " how is he Dr.?" I asked, I rubbed my palms together, I do that anytime am nervous or suffering from anxiety.
" his health is still in a critical stage right now" he paused for a while and searched my face for unexpected expression, I held my breath for a moment "but he will be okay before the week runs out" he added pushing his lens to his nose bridge. I let out a huge sigh of relief, "thank you doctor, thank you Jesus" I looked up.
Few days later, Gerald woke up, my excitement was unmeasurable, I held him close and gave him my warmest embrace, this was another chance for us as a family.
"Thank you for keeping your promise" I said.
"You told me to fight to live, i can't give up on you, you are so dear to me" he said, the smiles of his lips made reflection in his eyes. I closed my eyes and thanked God for answering my prayers. This was a new beginning for us to live an exciting and adventurous life together.
