Getting busy all day for this night was worth it, as dad walked in smiling all through when he realised it was a surprise he had longed for. the smiles had a clear expression of his heart felt gratitude,
"thank you" he whispered taking a peak at the parlour filled with friends, well wishers, colleguages as well as family.
"happy birthday" i smiled at him while others applaud as he walks in. he went around to greet friends and mingle, while we sang him the best birthday wishes, he blow his candles and cut his cake. amidst those closed eyes and moving lips, he has only one wish.
"i wish to see her soon" i thought, dad had not been himself since mummy left for two years, his love was undying, he held no grudges against her though she left us yearning for her each day. Jemmy walks in ten minutes late as usual.
"you are late" i said,
" i know, i went to get dad a gift" he ignored and search around to find where dad could be.
"happy birthday" he said and handed the gift to dad. "thank you son!" dad replied,
"its time for the movie" i announced gathering everyone around our little plasma samsung tv, carefully placing a clear disc of "NOT AWAY" into the dvd player, a short thirty minutes movie that will definately brighten this room up. After a fade out in thirty minutes, the movie came to an end and the room went silent and still. After so much concentration, i finally turn my head, it gave an happy ending but so many stories were left untold and what i wanted to be a comedy made every eyes wet in tears.
" i hope this doesn't occur in movies only" dad made a remark wiping the tears away. To send sentiments away, i turned the music on. the doorbrell went on, i went down to get it, i opened the door to a light skin  tall lady with a sad expression on her face
"who are you looking for?" i inquired politely
"Mr. Alex, is he in?" she asked
"well that is my dad and today is his birthday" i replied taking the lead while she followed. she handed out an envelope to him when she got to meet him. she quietly sat next to him and stroked him pitifully.
"your wife suffered from cancer, we lost her yesterday! she wanted you to have that" she said amidst tears. Jemmy cried and stormed out due to the news, watching dad, he was devastated and i had nothing to do or help save the situation. dad appreciates her efforts and walk away too leaving the letter behind. mum left to keep us from beginning worried and keep on being happy while she die slowly and in pains, at the end she wrote "am not away, always with you".
